International relations

Within the framework of widening international relations ABA has implemented below-mentioned:

  • Cooperation Agreement with Association of Banks of Georgia was signed in 2003;
  • Cooperation Agreement with Association of Regional Banks of Russia was signed in 2004;
  • Cooperation Agreement with Hellenic Banks Association was signed in 2005;
  • Cooperation Agreement with Northern Cyprus Banks Association was signed in 2005;
  • Cooperation Agreement with Association of Latvian Commercial Banks was signed in 2007;
  • ABA was admitted to the membership of International Coordination Council (International Banking Council) of the bank associations of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe in 2007;
  • Cooperation Agreements with Association of Ukrainian Banks and Association of the Belarusian Banks was signed in 2007;
  • The Letter of Intent on establishment of Coordination Council of GUAM member states banking associations and the relevant Agreement was signed in November 2007;
  • Cooperation Agreements with Moldovan Banks Association was signed in December 2007;
  • ABA became associative member of the European Banking Federation (EBF) in February of 2008. Along with the opportunity to benefit from the invaluable practice in organization of balanced performance of banking system, cooperation with EBF allowed the ABA access the various databases related to the European banking legislation.
  • In 2008, Cooperation Agreements were signed with below-mentioned banking associations:
  1. Association of Banks of the Republic of Kazakhstan
  2. Union of Banks of Kyrgyzstan
  3. Uzbekistan Banking Association
  4. Tajikistan Banking Association 

These agreements gave the ABA the chance to shift the cooperation with our colleagues in Central Asia to a qualitatively new level and allowed our members to build mutually beneficial relationships with the partners from that region through ABA.

  • The cooperation agreement was signed with the Banks Association of Turkey in May, 2008. The agreement established close cooperation between the two brotherly countries’  banks associations, as well as boosted the strengthening of interstates economic relations within the frame of authorities of the two associations;
  • The cooperation agreement was signed with the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific in 2009.
  • Memorandum of Understanding about the establishment of international organization named as Central Eurasia Banks Federation was signed on April 17, 2009, in Istanbul. Federation was registered in the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan Republic in 2010. The founders of the Federation are Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Kirghizstan banks associations. In the first meeting of Federation, in May 2011, Turkey and Tajikistan Banks Associations have been accepted for the membership in the Federation.
  • “The Council of Banks Associations of the Turkic States” was established on November 4, 2022, in Istanbul, guided by the fact that the close and coordinated relations of the banking associations of the Turkish states have entered a qualitatively new stage. Azerbaijan Banks Association, Kazakhstan Republic Banks Association, Kyrgyzstan Banks Union, Uzbekistan Banks Association, Turkey Banks Union signed the Memorandum of Understanding in connection with the establishment of the Council.
  • In January 2023, the Azerbaijan Banks Association was elected a member of the Sustainable Banking and Finance Network of the International Finance Corporation.
  • On February 15, 2023, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Azerbaijan Banks Association and the United Arab Emirates Banks Federation.
  • On April 20, 2023, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Azerbaijan Banks Association and the Hungarian Banking Association.
  • On June 13, 2023, the Azerbaijan Banks Association and the Participation Banks Association of Türkiye signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the development of the financial sector in Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
  • On June 13, 2023, an agreement on “Staff Exchange” was signed between the Azerbaijan Banks Association and the Hungarian Banking Association.
  • On June 14, 2023, an agreement on cooperation was signed between the Azerbaijan Banks Association and the International Finance Corporation.
